Guinea Pigs stages of growing up
Having a guinea pig is like having a child - you get to watch grow up through all stages of life, and care for them all along the way. On this page, we have a brief age breakdown, so you can understand where your Guinea Pig is in its life, and then we have a more in-depth view of all the different ages, so you can understand what type of care they require, and look after them better.
Guinea Pig age breakdownA Guinea Pig will usually live around 5-7 years, that is with adequate care. With exceptional care (can be achieved by following every step in our care guides), they have been known to live up to 10 years.
Age 1-3: A Guinea Pig this age is like a baby human. They are new to the world, and are growing up fast. Age 3-4: A Guinea Pig this age is still young, but like a teenager, or young adult. This is the best part of their lives, and they are energetic, playful, always running around when excited, and almost always hungry! Age 5-6: A Guinea Pig this age is beginning to grow old. They are still capable of what they were at age 3-4, but you can notice them growing older. Age 7+: A Guinea Pig this age is old! Most Guinea Pigs live around 7-8 years, and at this age, they require a lot more care and attention. Most Guinea Pigs won't live to 8 years. |
